Content Summary

Learn about the true story of Dr. Gary Shapiro and Princess the orangutan as they explore and laugh together in the forests of Borneo. Sent to a rehabilitation center for orphaned orangutans, Princess is scared and alone. Gary helps to raise her in his field house at the center. As Gary teaches her sign language and they go on adventures together, Princess’s fear soon turns to curiosity about the world around her. As Princess grows and Gary’s research ends, she must make a choice: Should she stay looking towards the past, or should she venture out into the unknown, continuing her growth and learning on her own?

This story teaches children about animal conservation, friendship, and helping others. This story works to bolster important Social-Emotional Learning skills and milestones such as establishing real-world connections, value systems, and conflict resolution.

🧠 An interactive trivia session at the end of the book develops your little one's listening skills and cognition!
